Four Suspects Arrested In Abduction Case

77-year-old Paul Wayne Thompson and 45-year-old Lewis Leslie Lyons, both of Statesville, and 43-year-old Laurie Faye Thompson and 24-year-old Skyler Patrick Haneline, both of Olin, have been charged by the Statesville Police Department. Paul Thompson is charged with felony counts of abduction of a child and conspiracy to abduct a child. He’s also charged with transporting a child out-of-state, and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The other three suspects are charged with felony conspiracy to abduct a child, along with misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and resist, obstruct and delay.

On March 13, Statesville Police were dispatched to an address on North Center Street in Statesville regarding a 15-year-old female runaway. Officers searched the surrounding area and locations frequented by the juvenile but were unsuccessful in locating her. Statesville investigators continued the search, working with personnel from the Davie County Department of Social Services. Davie County DSS personnel provided numerous leads and persons of interest for investigation.

Information obtained led authorities to believe the juvenile was transported to a home in Pasco County, Florida by Paul Wayne Thompson. Thompson has no family relationship with the juvenile. Police also determined additional family members of Thompson’s, who are not related to the juvenile, assisted the juvenile in running away from her residence and obstructed authorities in their efforts to locate the juvenile.

On March 17, Statesville Police contacted deputies at the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in Florida and provided deputies with a possible location of the juvenile. Deputies found Paul Thompson at this address, and after a short interview, Thompson admitted the juvenile was inside the residence. Deputies found the juvenile inside the home and arrested Thompson at the scene. Davie County DSS personnel arranged for the juvenile to be transported back to Statesville.

Paul Thompson was being held in the Pasco County Jail, awaiting extradition to Statesville. Bond for the other three suspects was set at $5,000 secured apiece. None are listed as inmates in Iredell County. Paul Thompson did not have any court dates listed in Iredell County. The other three suspects are scheduled to appear in District Court April 7.
