24-year-old Khalfani Sharron Coulter of 4215 Carpenters Road, Claremont, was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. today on a felony charge of assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury and one misdemeanor count each of assault on a female by a male, communicating threats and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer.

The charges stem from an argument between Coulter and his 23-year-old girlfriend.  Coulter allegedly pushed the woman down and choked her during an argument.

Coulter was processed at the Hickory Police Department where bond was set at $1,000 on the resisting or obstructing charge; however, he was incarcerated at the Catawba Co. Detention Facility without bond on the other charges.

Coulter is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Newton tomorrow.
