NATIONWIDE SERIES TEAM OWNER PENALIZED … Nationwide Series team owner Johnny Davis has been penalized by NASCAR for a rules violation following last weekend’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 in Montreal. He was fined five thousand dollars and placed on probation until December 31st for actions detrimental to stock car racing. Davis was involved in an altercation on pit road after completion of the race … in which his driver, Mike Wallace, finished seventeenth. (John Singler, MRN Radio)
STARR BACK IN THE ‘81’ … Camping World Truck Series driver David Starr will return to the Number-81 Toyota for Friday’s Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers at Kentucky Speedway … but it’ll now be campaigned under the SS/Green Light Racing banner. After running the first sixteen races with Randy Moss Motorsports this year, Starr jumped into the Number-21 truck last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway after his “81” was parked for two races due to a lack of funding. Starr drove the SS/Green Light Racing entry to a tenth-place finish and yesterday, confirmed that he’ll remain with the organization for the balance of the season – and keep his old truck number. Starr heads into Friday’s race ninth in points, with seven Top Tens in seventeen starts. (John Singler, MRN Radio)
NMPA TO ENSHRINE THREE MORE … The National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame will open its doors to three new inductees in January … with Wednesday’s announcement that 1999 Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett, famed crew chief and engine builder Waddell Wilson and renowned NASCAR journalist Tom Higgins will be enshrined as the Class of 2011. The induction ceremony will take place in conjunction with the organization’s annual convention in January. (John Singler, MRN Radio)
TRACK FACTS ► The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will get the weekend started today with a pair of practice sessions for Friday night’s Built Ford Tough 255 at Kentucky Speedway. They’ll qualify tomorrow and race just hours later. Ron Hornaday is the defending winner. ► In fact, the 2009 series champion is the only driver with multiple wins in the ten years the Truck Series has competed at Kentucky Speedway. Hornaday’s first win came in 2006. His victory last season marked the first time in ten races the pole-sitter went to Victory Lane in Kentucky. ► Nationwide Series teams are heading to Atlanta for Saturday night’s Great Clips 300. Chevrolet has won three of the last four races on the mile-and-a-half oval – with Jeff Burton going back-to-back in 2006 and 2007, and Kevin Harvick getting the win a year ago. Harvick will defend that victory as one of fifteen drivers doing double duty this weekend at A-M-S. ► NASCAR has confirmed its return to the Wynn Las Vegas Resort for this year’s Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony – scheduled for Friday, December 3rd. It’ll cap a full week of activities as the sport crowns its sixty-second champion. NASCAR moved the post-season program to Las Vegas for the first time last year following a twenty-eight-year run in New York City. (John Singler, MRN Radio)
