25-year-old Douglas Richard Kraus of Vantage Point Lane in Huntersville has been arrested by Iredell Co. Sheriff’s Officers on charges of felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny and injury to personal property.
Events leading to his arrest began in May of this year when Detectives started to investigate reports of landscaping lights and other decorative landscaping items that were stolen from a community off of Perth Road in Mooresville.
During the investigation, four other incidents involving stolen landscaping items were reported. Those incidents occurred in Mooresville on Lake Norman. In three of the cases, witnesses were able to provide a good description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. The suspect posed as a landscape worker and blended in well with other landscape crews working in the area.
Detectives spoke with several landscaping businesses in the area and were given a list of several possible suspects’ names, which included Douglas Kraus. Detectives were then able to positively identify Kraus as the suspect.
When Detectives went to speak to Kraus at his residence, they noticed a white Dodge Ram truck that matched the witnesses’ description. They did not find Kraus on that occasion or during several subsequent attempts. Kraus was believed to be avoiding law enforcement. Warrants for his arrest were issued on June 24.
Working with Cornelius and Huntersville Police, Detectives took Kraus in into custody without incident on Friday, July 18. He was placed in the Iredell Co. Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing investigation with regard to harboring a fugitive and other similar crimes that occurred in other jurisdictions.
