28-year-old James Alexander Weathers of Emmanuel Church Road in Conover was arrested by Newton Police last Thursday (June 19) on one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Weathers is accused of robbing the Kangaroo Express convenience store on East 20th Street Newton at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. He allegedly entered the store, approached the clerk with a large knife and demanded all the money from the register. The clerk complied and the suspect fled the store on foot.
An investigation, including a review of surveillance footage, pointed to Weathers as a suspect.
When Investigators interviewed Weathers, he confessed to the robbery and to three other breaking & entering crimes; one in Alexander County and two in Catawba County.
Weathers was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today (June 23) in Newton.
