20-year-old Montavious Lemar Mayfield and 23-year-old Ashton Markese Mayfield, both of 3rd Avenue Court S.W. in Hickory, were arrested by Hickory Police at about two o’clock Friday afternoon (June 13) on felony charges of obtaining property by false pretense (five counts for Montavious Mayfield and one count for Ashton Mayfield) and possession of stolen goods or property (six counts for Montavious Mayfield and one count for Ashton Mayfield).
They were arrested after a couple returned home from vacation and found their kitchen door slightly open with glass broken. Multiple electronics and jewelry items were stolen. Investigators learned that some of the stolen jewelry was sold to a local gold dealer, which led to the identification and arrests of the Mayfields.
Both men were taken into custody without incident at the gold dealer’s shop. They were placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond for Montavious Mayfield set at $35,000, secured, while Ashton Mayfield was given a $7,000 secured bond. They will make first appearances in District Court on June 23 in Newton.
