36-year-old Troy Daniel Hamilton of South Ashe Avenue in Newton has been arrested by Newton Police on felony charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense.
Hamilton’s arrest stems from an incident in the early morning hours on Monday, June 9. A 32-year-old female victim from Catawba reported that she had been raped by Hamilton at a residence on Henderson Avenue in Newton where Hamilton was staying with a friend. Hamilton and the victim were previously acquainted.
After the alleged assault, the victim called a friend who picked her up and took her to a nearby apartment. The assault was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Monday. Police responded and spoke to the victim, who identified her assailant. She was then taken by E.M.S. to Catawba Valley Medical Center where she was treated and released.
Officers went to the Henderson Avenue residence where they spoke to Hamilton and another 38-year-old man. During their initial investigation, Officers found a large amount of methamphetamine at the residence. Officers secured the area and contacted narcotics Investigators. A consent search was conducted, leading to the discovery of meth precursors and four dosage units of heroin. Drug charges against Hamilton and the other man are likely, pending completion of the ongoing narcotics investigation.
Hamilton was jailed yesterday (June 12) in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $100,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today in Newton.
