20-year-old Dysheem Tyrae Hart and 18-year-old Rayshawn James Ivory, both of Statesville, have been arrested by Statesville Police in connection to an incident in which a 13-year-old juvenile and another man were struck with shot pellets from a shotgun. Hart and Ivory were both charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.
At about 8:40 Sunday night (June 1), Statesville Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 1400 block of Church Street. Upon arrival, Officers located both victims. Their injuries were said to be minor and consisted of welts to the skin.
Officers learned that two suspects had fired a shotgun from the back yard of a home on Woodruff Street. Officers went to the location and heard persons in the house yelling about the Police presence. Due to the nature of the situation, Officers established a perimeter around the house. Police saw several persons running in and out of the home to a nearby wooded area. The Statesville Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) was called to the scene.
The SRT Officers began evacuating nearby homes. The occupants of the suspect house were directed to exit the residence. Five individuals complied.
A search warrant was executed at the residence. Investigators and Officers interviewed numerous people at the scene. As a result of the investigation, Hart and Ivory were taken into custody. A shotgun was seized during the investigation.
Both men were held in the Iredell Co. Detention Center on $25,000 secured bonds. They will appear in District Court on June 23.
