30-year-old James Willard Thacker of 34th Street Drive N.E. and 53-year-old Mark Lawson Miller of 27th Avenue N.E. in Hickory were both arrested by Hickory Police yesterday (May 13) in connection to a stolen truck. Thacker was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle and Miller was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Thacker was also charged on outstanding warrants for possessing, obtaining or manufacturing fraudulent I.D.; possession of a schedule II controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer; and two misdemeanor counts for failure to appear. Those warrants originated in Catawba County, Caldwell County and the Town of Long View.
Events leading to their arrests began when a 47-year-old female victim told Police her 1990 GMC Sierra truck was stolen from her driveway on Main Avenue Drive N.W. in Hickory. The victim said the truck was there when she left the residence at about 8:30 yesterday morning, but was gone when she returned after noon. She said the truck was unlocked. She said it didn’t have a valid license tag and it could only be started with a screwdriver.
The victim and a friend met with Police at a local restaurant and told Officers that Thacker was spotted pulling into Miller’s residence with the truck at about 11:30 a.m. Officers went to Miller’s residence and found the truck attached to a trailer there.
Both men were taken into custody at the 27th Avenue N.E. residence and jailed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility. Bond for Thacker was set at $16,100, secured, while Miller was given a $5,000 secured bond. They were both scheduled to make first appearances in District Court today in Newton.
