37-year-old Robert Dewayne Gwyn of 2nd Avenue N.W. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday (May 1) on one felony count of common law robbery.
He was arrested after Police were called to the 1100 block of Main Avenue N.W. in Hickory at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A 34-year-old Hickory woman told them that she had been riding a bus to her residence and, as she got off the bus, Robert Gwyn pulled up in a car, got out, grabbed her by the arm and took her purse, which contained approximately $20.
Gwyn left the scene in a gray Dodge Stratus. The victim had recently broken up with Gwyn and had previously argued with him over the phone regarding rent.
A short time later, Police spotted the vehicle at 2nd Street N.E. and Highway 127 North. Gwyn was taken into custody without incident. The victim’s purse was found in the vehicle’s front seat.
Gwyn was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $10,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in District Court today in Hickory.
