The City of Morganton plans to resurface the basketball courts at Freedom Park next week. The courts will be closed once the project begins.
Parks & Recreation Director Gary Leonhardt included funding in his budget this year to replace the aging courts that were built in the early 1980s.
Johnson Paving & Crushing Co., Inc. of Marion was awarded the project after coming in with a low bid of $15,447. Johnson Paving will remove approximately 8,435 square feet of old asphalt and install a new surface. City workers will then stripe the new court.
Johnson Paving plans to begin work next week, weather permitting. Once work begins, the courts will remain closed until the project is completed.
Other basketball courts are available at Bethel Park, the Collett Street Recreation Center and the Mountain View Recreation Center.
