18-year-old Jeffrey Lee Johnson, Jr. of 20th Avenue Drive N.E. in Hickory was arrested by Hickory Police just past nine o’clock Saturday night (April 12) on two felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count each for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arrested when an Officer on routine patrol on the 300 block of 16th Avenue N.W. saw a vehicle stopped with its flashers on. The Officer went to see if the driver needed assistance. The driver, Jeffrey Johnson, said he hit the curb and had a flat.
A tow truck was called and, as Johnson opened the driver’s door to be sure his vehicle was in park, the Officer smelled marijuana. A search of the vehicle turned up a jar containing marijuana, 14 small, pink pills wrapped in foil, two bags containing Xanax and digital scales, which were found in the trunk. The pink pills were identified as Ecstasy.
Johnson was taken to the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $9,000 secured bond. He has since been released. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled yesterday (April 14) in Hickory.
