39-year-old Dawn Bumgarner Herman of Chester White Road in Taylorsville was arrested by Hickory Police at about 7:45 Saturday evening on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also charged with four probation violations.
Herman was arrested after she called Police from the Wal-Mart store on Highway 70 S.E. in reference to a stolen vehicle. Herman told Police her vehicle was taken by people she met earlier in the day.
She was referred to the Magistrate’s office to take out an arrest warrant. In the meantime, a routine records check showed that Herman had outstanding warrants for HER arrest in Catawba County on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge and in Alexander County for probation violations dating back to 2009 and 2010.
A subsequent search of Herman’s purse turned up a bottle containing 0.6 grams of meth and a blue container with three straws and residue and three metal graters.
She was arrested without incident and placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $14,000 secured bond. A first appearance on the drug charges was set for today (April 14) in Hickory. Herman will appear in Superior Court on April 21 in Taylorsville and in Newton on the shoplifting charge on May 6.
