Appalachian State Wrestling Adds Six to Roster

After signing five in the fall JohnMark Bentley announced the signing of six student-athletes to finalize the Appalachian State University wrestling roster for the 2014-15 season.

The Mountaineers added Jacob Grigg, Colton Jackson, Michael Longo, David Peters-Logue and Payton Shuford in the fall and added Heath Gleaton, Demetreus Kostis, Trey Smith, Beau Minnick and Drake Patrum, Bentley announced on Monday.

Heath Gleaton - Concord, N.C. - Central Cabarrus High School - proj. 125
Gleaton was a two time North Carolina state champion and a National High School Coaches Association All-American. Gleaton was also a two-time regional champion and won most outstanding wrestler nine times in his four years.

Demetreus Kostis - Boone, N.C. - Watauga High School - proj. 133/141
Kostis, a local native, will look to follow in his brother’s footstep at Appalachian. Kostis older brother Savva Kostis is tied for 10th in Appalachian’s history with 82 career wins. Kostis leaves Watauga High School as a 4A state champion at the 132-pound weight class. He was named all-conference four years and was a four-time conference champion.

Beau Minnick - Clyde, Ohio - Clyde High School - proj. 149
Minnick was a four-time state qualifier with his best finish in his senior season where he placed second. He was a four-time conference champion and a four-time junior national team member. He was also named NHSCA All-American. He had a combined high school record of 173-23.

Trey Smith - Grundy, Va. - Grundy High School - 141/149
Smith was a two-time state champion at Grundy High School. In his senior season, he helped his team earn a team title. He sports a 144-11 high school record and has a 4.0 grade point average.

Drake Patrum - High Point, N.C. -Southern Guilford High School - proj. 157
Patrum was a state champion at the 152-pound weight class. He had a 25-2 record in his senior season in which 15 of those wins were by pins.

Aaron Mattioni - Milford, Del. - Cape Henlopen High School - proj. 197
Mattioni won the Henlopen conference championships and won the Delaware state championship at the 195-pound weight class. He has 113 career high school wins.
